Ekadashi Kab Hai 2026โ€“27 with parana time

Dates follow the Smarta tradition (most North Indian households). Timings are for New Delhi and can differ by a few minutes in your city. Parana is on the day after the fast. (Ekadashi Kab Hai)

Why are some parana times in the afternoon? You shouldn’t break the fast during Hari Vasara, the first quarter of Dwadashi tithi. When Hari Vasara lasts through the morning, the right time to break the fast moves to the afternoon, after midday. The list above already takes this into account.

Ekadashi vrat rules: what to eat and what to avoid

โœ… Allowed (phalahar)
  • Fruits, milk, curd, paneer and makhana
  • Sabudana, kuttu (buckwheat) and singhara (water chestnut) flour
  • Potato, sweet potato, arbi and pumpkin
  • Sendha namak (rock salt), peanuts, dry fruits
โŒ Avoid
  • Rice and anything made from rice (the most important rule)
  • Wheat, pulses (dal) and other grains
  • Onion, garlic, and non-vegetarian food
  • Regular table salt, if you’re keeping a strict vrat

How to break the Ekadashi fast (parana)

  1. Break the fast on the next day (Dwadashi), within the parana time shown above.
  2. Don’t break it during Hari Vasara, the first quarter of Dwadashi.
  3. Morning (pratahkal) is the best time. Avoid breaking the fast at midday.
  4. Many families break the fast with tulsi water or a little of the prasad, and offer food to a Brahmin or someone in need first.

Smarta vs Vaishnava Ekadashi: why two dates?

Sometimes calendars show two dates for the same Ekadashi. Smartas (most householders) fast on the day Ekadashi tithi is present at sunrise. Vaishnavas, including ISKCON followers, avoid a day where Dashami touches Ekadashi before sunrise, so their fast can fall a day later. This list shows the Smarta date and notes the Vaishnava date where it differs.

Yes, on most Ekadashis. Only Nirjala Ekadashi (14 June 2027) is kept without water. People who are ill, pregnant, elderly or diabetic can keep a phalahar fast with fruit and milk instead. Check with a doctor if you have a health condition.

Ideally, break the fast within the parana window. If Dwadashi has already ended, many traditions advise breaking it after sunrise on the next day, but follow your family’s or pandit’s guidance.
